Walk the Southern Ridges, Singapore: HortPark, Kent Ridge Park, Henderson Waves, Mt Faber

Updated: Mar 20, 2021

Walk or hike Singapores Southern Ridges: Kent Ridge Park, HortPark, Henderson Waves, Mt Faber Park

Our walking guide to Singapore's Southern Ridges:

Kent Ridge Park, HortPark, Alexandra Arch and garden trail, Henderson Waves, Mt Faber Park

If you're looking for an easy going, free and healthy activity for your weekend we recommend taking a walk along Singapore's Southern ridges. It's and easy and scenic walk for all fitness levels and all ages. Allow between 2 - 3 hours to complete the full walk. We took 2.5hrs stopping to take plenty of photos along the way.

Southern Ridges Starting point - Kent Ridge Park

We started the Southern Ridge walk from Kent Ridge Park carpark (located at the top of Vigilante Drive, off South Buona Vista Road). To get there, the nearest MRT is Pasir Panjang. Alternatively you can take a taxi or Grab. If downloading the Grab taxi app, use our code for your first ride free (GRAB1HU0ZBZO).

One of the most interesting features of this park is that it is the scene of one of the final battles for Singapore during World War two (Andrew loves his war history so it was really a highlight for us to find this). Along the walk stop to read the signs which give insight over the battle story. If you have a spare hour we also recommend to visit the museum, Reflections Bukit Chandu to learn more about the history and hear the stories of the Singaporeans who fought in this battle. Otherwise, carry on walking along the tree top canopy walk to connect on to HortPark.

Southern Ridges - HortPark

At the bottom to the canopy walk from Kent Ridge Park is HortPark. HortPark is a popular spot for gardening activities. Our favourite feature of the park is the glass greenhouses, used to grow the flowers for the upcoming flower dome exhibits at Gardens By the Bay. It's a free way to see the latest flowers growing. Our other favourite features of HortPark are the little gardening patches which are used by local gardening enthusiasts, the large green wall, and the park entrance with an amazing view over HortPark.

Southern Ridges - HortPark to Alexandra Arch, Garden trail and canopy walk

From the car park of HortPark you can connect through the flower garden onto Alexandra Arch and Garden trail. The Alexandra Garden trail links HortPark to the rest of the Southern Ridges and Henderson Waves. It includes a tree top canopy walk which is offers scenic views of the lush green jungle. It is a flat and easy trail. The trail features a variety of flowers, plants and foliage offering visitors scenic views and lush greenery.

Southern Ridges - Alexandra Tree top walk to Henderson Waves

From the top of the canopy tree top walk along Alexandra trail is Telok Blangah Hill Park, which connects on to the Henderson waves. This is the steepest part of the trek but overall it's an easy walk. The Henderson waves is the must see stop along this walk, it is frequently visited for its distinctive wave structure, and creative and artistic architecture. Enjoy a panoramic view of the city and surrounds from the waves. It's usually quite busy, but on this day we slept in an ended up walking in the mid day heat, leaving the waves all to ourselves (bring a hat and sunscreen if you do this!).

Southern Ridges - Henderson Waves to Mount Faber Park

Our final stop of the Southern Ridges walk was Mt Faber Park, which offers a wide range of activities, including the cable car from Mount Faber to Sentosa Island. We enjoyed the view from the peak of the park, gazing through the free telescopes at the lookout point. We also had a chance to learn about Singapores heritage at the mural wall, depicting scenes of local and historical events.
